SBC: Why is including videography into a wedding budget so important?
Bryan: I think including videography into the wedding budget is paramount because there are no redos and as memories of your big day begin to fade, your video will stand the test of time. It will allow you to relive that special moment in a way no other medium can and allow you to pass along an heirloom to your children and grandchildren who will thank you for having it done. Don't you wish you could see your grandparent's video in High Definition and hear their vows? Saving the extra $1,000-$3,500 may seem a priority now, but over 20 years it only cost $4-$15/month to have these memories forever. Most of us spend more eating out.
SBC: How did you become interested in shooting wedding videos?
Bryan: I got into shootings weddings because my parents have been filming weddings and other events for over 25 years. Growing up around video and the creativity behind it really gave me a boost into the industry. They started me out doing 8mm transfer and I took off filming skydiving videos. I then filmed my first wedding at the age of 19 (and man was I nervous!). After gaining some experience, upgrading equipment, and learning the trade, I made this my full-time profession and have loved it ever since.
SBC: What are a few current trends in wedding videography?
Bryan: A few of the current trends I've noticed in more high end wedding videography is the use of DSLR cameras to capture HD video as well as stabilizers, Glidecams, camera sliders, and other tools that really make video "pop". Top end pros will also use multiple wireless mics for crystal clear audio and delivery on Blu-Ray is becoming ever more popular.
SBC: What are your favorite moments to capture on the wedding day?
Bryan: My favorite moments to capture have to be the bride getting ready, the first time the bride groom see each other, and the time between the wedding and reception when all the pressure has been alleviated and they can relax, be themselves, and enjoy the day.
SBC: What are a few of your favorite venues to film?
Bryan: A couple of my favorite venues to film in the Louisville Area include: The Muhammad Ali Center, The Frazier Museum Rooftop, The Grand (So. IN.), KYE's II (So. IN.) among others.
SBC: What advice do you have for brides and grooms looking to book a videographer?
Bryan: My main advice for brides and grooms when making a decision about their videographer: First, look at quality of work and style (Do they shoot/edit in a style you really enjoy?). Everyone edits differently but some companies always seem to get that shot "That is so you!". Second, talk to them on the phone or through email to get a feel for their personality. Do they seem friendly and passionate about what they do? The last thing a couple wants is someone that's hard to get along with. Third, look at pricing. If you like the work and the personality, price shouldn't play a large part in your decision making process (see comment #1). After all, you are asking us to capture beautiful imagery, get those candid shots, not miss any keys moments....all with no redos. It's something we take very seriously and you shouldn't trust your memories with someone who thinks any less.
SBC: What other services besides wedding day coverage do you offer?
Bryan: Besides wedding day coverage, we can build "Love Story" videos (interview mixed with photos & video to outline the story of "you"), "trash the dress" videos, we can cover your rehearsal, edit any video (home, business, commercial), duplicate DVDs, build/host websites, transfer 8mm film, build slideshows, and more.
SBC: What distinguishes your company from all your other competitors?
Bryan: I feel that my personality and the quality of my work set me apart from others in the industry. I'm very easy going yet professional and have an eye for capturing and creating the beautiful. Through time I've learned to be discreet yet capture those moments that last a lifetime.
SBC: Any advice for brides and grooms for the wedding day in regards to video?
Bryan: When it comes to advice regarding your video, the best I can give is this: Relax. Smile. Have Fun. If you do these 3 things your video and photos (not to mention memories) will turn out fantastic. Remember, we're ordinary people doing extra-ordinary work. It may seem awkward at first having a camera pointed at you for most of the day, but this day is all about the two of you anyway right? This is where personality comes in. A good videographer will let you feel at ease and be a relaxing presence instead of a stressor. We're there to have fun too! :)
SBC: When you not working on creating beautiful wedding films, what do you do in your spare time?
Bryan: Lol, spare time. I've got a 2 month old daughter (Abigail) that keeps me pretty busy but if I've got a few "Bryan" moments, I enjoy Mountain Biking, Canoeing, Racquetball, Frisbee Golf, Skydiving, Softball, Hiking/Camping, Scrabble (I know, I'm a nerd), some Call of Duty, Photography, taking out my dog Tucker, and of course hanging out with my beautiful wife Lisa.
